Default Turbo Blanket?

I read somewhere that using a blanket on a daily driver can shorten the life on your turbo due to holding the heat in for long periods of time on shutdown with no oil flow. Is this true? I am fabbing up a front mount and would like to use a blanket if possible but if its going to do more damage than good in the long run, I would think that a heat shield would be a better option...?

It is possible. I would install a turbo timer for safety and set it for 2 minutes depending on where you live and ventilate the hood in the area above the turbo.

Diggin up an oldie....any other opinions on this? I'm looking at either getting a turbo blanket or having my exhaust housing hot-coated.

I'd go for the turbo timer...will solve any problems.

My preference would be to avoid any additional electronics. I already have several rat's nests of wiring in the truck.

Turbo timers are a bad idea around here with all the theft. Most alarms now have turbo timers built in and to me it just seems like another means of being vulnerable. So you leave your truck running for 2-5min and you lock the doors and walk away.

I say go with the blanket or coating and just change your oil more often.

Which do you think would work better? I'm already planning on having all my hot-side parts coated, so I could coat the turbo at the same time, but a blanket would probably be cheaper.

I think alot of factory turbo cars use a blanket or heat shield, My turbo housing is coated, It seems to cool down really quick.
