turbos or nitrous?
after reading about those turbo setups they are working on for our trucks i cant decide what to do. they are going to cost alot but would be soo cool. here is my question
would one of these set ups be any faster than the other one.
1. 6.0 with rod bolts and lower compresion forged pistons, 8psi(whipple) and a 150shot.
2. 6.0 with rod bolts and lower compresion forged pistons and lots of intercooled boost, maybe 15psi from a twin turbo set up.
probably looking at 600hp either way.

Re: turbos or nitrous?
Parish, have you seen what Harlan has done on 15psi with an almost stock size motor.
With either setup I think your looking at more than 600rwhp.
The best thing about nitrous is that if you use a wet kit/direct port you completely bypass the whole MAF limit issue. The bad thing is that the power is not there all the time...Well, I guess the Whipple is still there.
The nice thing about the turbos is that you can set your power level at will. Low power on pump gas or High power on race gas. The bad thing is initial cost and setup.
Careful with that 150 shot on top of the Whipple.....It might act like a tad bit BIGGER shot.

Re: turbos or nitrous?
How Bout someone put some Forged internals in a 5.3L
Would it be worth the hassle?
I'm sure it wouldn't cost that much to do some head work and put in some cutoms low compression pistons
slap on a Supercharger/turbo setup
what do you think it would put down ?
It's an iron block so i'm sure it would be pretty strong
Assuming you could fuel it and keep the tranny in it
Maybe this is somthing someone has to try has anybody doen Forged internals for a 5.3L?
would it be worth it
Harlans puttin down some sick numbers on his almost stock CI 5.7 Aluminum LS1 block

Re: turbos or nitrous?
yea hopefuly the machine shop will hurry up. but i will not have the supercharger for a while. and you better believe that motor will see 12-15 pounds of boost.
didn't mix put forged internals in his?

Re: turbos or nitrous?
SO what kinds of boost did the engine builder say that your build up would handle ?
I'm hitttin my truck with 9 psi and it seems to be detonation free and taking it so far
I wonder how much the block could handle ?
how much do you think we could put down with a 5.3L using F.I?
How much is it costing to rebuild it ?
jim

Re: turbos or nitrous?
i think i am going to try and get into the 12's in street trim(6psi with no weight reduction) and then hit it with a 50shot and see what happens, i may run into all kinds of driveline problems and not even have to worry about beefing the engine up.
since running a 13.39 i have added
50lb injectors
aux inline fuel pump
exhaust balance tube
synthetic motor oil
and have the parts sitting here to add
eaton posi
bbk 80mm TB with whipple intake porting
home made cold air intake
some dyno tuning to help dial in a/f ratio and determine best shift points

Re: turbos or nitrous?
i got some new conectors and wired them in
they cost $500 from racetronics
idles well, i hear a very slight drop out every 30sec or so, not sure how to describe it but it is almost perfectly smooth but every now and then it has a slight change. probably normal.
as far as tuning them in i still have a few questions about that, i ended up with almost the same injector flow number i had before in order to get my ltrims in line but i am not sure how far off my ltrims were with the old injectors. i also haven't touched the injector offset table. i haven't been able to realy test them because my tranny died(lost 2nd and 4th) while i was out on the first injector test drive(completly wasted a f150 harley sc). i can tell you they really killed my fuel system, before i had about a 5psi drop at the 2-3shift and none at the 1-2 shift, now i see a 20psi drop at the 1-2 shift. since then i got an inline fuel pump and the presure holds steady at the top of 1st.
they were kind of a pain to install, had to shim up the rails and bend the cross over a little along with soldering on the new pig tails.
edit... also had to use the o rings from the bottom of the stock injectors.
