Default TVS 2300 on a 5.3

I've been planning a 390 AES short block with a Maggie 2300 but don't have the cash yet so I thought I'd get the SC and put it on my 5.3 until I can save the rest of the cash.

Then I see an article in the new Hot Rod where they put twin turbo's on a 5.3 and made 1202 hp with 27 pds boost.... and when they tore it down they discovered it was a 4.8!!!

That really inspired me to do the 2300. Any ideas how much boost I'd get?

I read that same article, that just blows my mind how strong these LS engines are from the factory.

Depends on the pulley size...you would want to keep it below 10lbs if you want the 5.3 to live.

Pour the boost to it. Haven't read the article, but good running 5.3's and 4.8's are pretty cheap. In the article, they talked about widening the top piston ring end gap. Apparently a hot top ring expanding is what causes those "smiling" piston tops we all know and love. The 2300 on a 5.3 should pump well in excess of 15psi comfortably. Should be fun to watch...from a distance

I was thinking 15psi would be likely, when I got on it, and I'm not worried about the 5.3 living a long time. I want to replace it in the next year or two anyway.

I wouldn't have to spin the sc fast in order to get a lot of air into the 5.3. This sounds like fun.

A 3.2" pulley will be about 15lbs on a 5.3
4in = 9lbs
3.5in = 12.5lbs
2.8in = 19lbs

i vote 2.8" see what its got! well maybe only once you have the 390 since you will prob want that pulley on there anyway.
that aes 390 is one nasty combo and would definately be my choice on a FI short block

btw what issue of hot rod is that? or any link to the article id like to see it. makes sense that opening the ring gap will stop some problems

I don't have it in front of me but it's the newest one in the mail and has a photo of some sort of multi blower set up on the cover.

It's the September 2011 issue.

They said they opened up the top ring gaps from 0.015" to 0.028"
