They only made Ty's in 1992 and 1993. 1991 was a Syclone (truck). This guy might not actually know what he has.

Yes! Love Typhoons! My friend had a bored one... it was only bored b/c the engine blew and needed a rebuild. It was tons of fun, but like was said earlier, they do come with their share of problems.

exactly. neat trucks, but IMO really not worth trying to hot rod.

They're like a sore dick. You don't mess with it unless you know what you're doing. Subsequent problems are usually a result of lack of knowledge.

In the early years there were some BAD chips out there that caused lots problems for people (knock, blown engines) then it snow balled from there. People bought them to go fast too, which naturally led to boost launches from stoplight to stoplight. That tears **** up no matter what it is. Look at the AWD DSM's. They suffer from the crappy 700R4 too...oh wait so do our trucks.
A stock truck with reliability mods and regular tune ups will last a long time. There are a lot still going at over 200K miles and 1 reported case of close to 350K miles. I think if GM would've marketed it better and didn't price it so damned high they would've been better hot rodding material. There would be more of them around, more parts, more knowledge and a bigger following. Take the Lightning for instance, or the GN's. More of them=better aftermarket. The only reason our trucks are so easily modified is because we share a powertrain with the vette/f-body crowd.
