Vortech w 3.12 pulley. Shouldn't I have more boost?

what kind of blower are you running? strim? also, have you equated the max RPMs your turning in comparison to what vortech recommends? I am interested to see if its safe to overspin them.

i have a 6.0 and i am seeing about 10lbs at my 6300 shift i wonder why its so much higher

Yes, a S-trim. Vortech says it has a max impeller speed of 53,000 rpm and even with the smaller pulley I should only be topping out at about 44,000.

That's exactly my point. You should have less boost at a given rpm due to the larger engine.

I didn't get a chance to check the belt last night but I will over the weekend.

Well hello there my Kentucky Vortech brother. Loosing sleep over that lost boost? For everyone else, I am also running the s-trim on the 5.3L. My shift point is set at 5800 but due to the inconsistency of the 4L60E I sometimes log 6000 rpms when it shifts. A lot of that to has to do with a loose stall. My 3.12" pulley is showing 11-11.5 in the 5800-6000 range depending on weather and shifts on the 60E..... I have only thrown my belt one time since the S/C went on in September and I have an 180A alternator coming in the first of the week so I will get an up close and personal look at the belt. All I know is at 6000 rpms, the vortech is just getting warmed up....It wants more...

I would go as tight a belt as you can force on that puppy to eliminate slippage as a contributer. Vortech does a pretty good job with pulley wrap... I would also suggest another sending unit/gauge and being yours in a 2002 check for leaks... Beyond that dunno...... other than impellor clearance from the factory... My money is on a leak.... or gauge..... BTW is your gauge analog or digital....

Hmmm... I am looking at that gauge trying to figure out how to read .5 lb of boost

This what I am reading... It is easier for me to glance over and look at on the fly....

Well, in low gear it almost touches the 10 line but your right, it's not an exact reading. I've been busy all day today and didn't have a chance to look at the belt. I'll try to do that tomorrow.

I'm also thinking about changing the disk in the FMU to lean it out a touch on the top. That has nothing to do with my boost pressure but from my O2 sensor readings I think there could be a couple of extra hp there if I don't get the sound of dimes bouncing off of my pistons. and if I do, I can add a little more alky to the mix or spray a little more.

Well, I checked out my belt today. It doesn't look bad but if I run my finger along the groves I do get dust on my finger. I'm really not sure that that's my problem but I will go in search of a Goodyear Gatorback belt this week. I may also replace the belt tensioner. Mine does have 60k miles on it.


Also, I did change out the disk in the FMU form the 10:1 to the 8:1. I got no pinging with my current meth injetion jet and pressure. My O2 sensor voltage dropped from 935mv at WOT to 870mv. I realize that you shouldn't tune by narrow band O2 readings but that seems more in line with where it should be. It does feel slightly stronger on the top end.

I'm still seeing in excess of 100 psi of fuel pressure when it's at 5700-5800 rpm, so maybe it is just my gauge not showing the actual boost. From my understanding of the FMU it would take around 11 psi of boost to get 100 psi of fuel pressure with a 8:1 disk. Any input?
