Water Pump / pulley upgrade for Roots blower
Maybe I have just been lucky in the past, but I have had good luck with just tacking the pulley to the shaft. I just pullied back down to a 2.7 on a tvs2300 front drive from 3.4, 8 rib. About the seventh pull I ripped the pulley off where it was attached to the hub on the shaft. This was a gates premium pump 7
months old. Just welded the pulley on a new ACDelco and put it on. Is there a better pump/pulley off an LS3 vehicle out there that would be straight forward upgrade? Or is there a recommended after market? This is a 2010 Geniv avalanche with a forged 390 in it and West overdrive, but have retained the truck accessory spacing. Thanks

I lost one water pump/pulley. On the next one, I had my pulley welded to the shaft, and added one of these threaded covers. I thought it may add a little support to the pulley if the blower tries to push it off the front. if it is strictly rotational forces causing the issue, I doubt it would help.

I have been thru the ringer with water pumps. I just bought a gm one and ran water thru it while I had it welded solid at the snout. It got cherry red but the water saved the seals. I put 65k miles on the factory one after I pressed it back onto the pump and welded it. That one just gave up a few months ago so I had another one welded up. The weld didn’t break the pulley broke and became unbalanced.

No pulley issues with the PRW pump since installing in 2014. The first pump did spring a leak in 2021 and was replaced with another. The snout on the second pump was spaced slightly out from the original but all still fit well. The PRW pump was installed as a precaution after a seal failure in my stock welded pump .
