Anybody have any experience with a recirculating setup. I've heard it smooths things out a bit. I know they're real popular with the import croud.

I think that is the same thing as a bypass system that Rick is talking about. Instead of excess boost being blown to atmosphere it is piped back to the intake before the turbo/supercharger, or recirculated.

Can't the BOV he has now just be recirculated? The vortech one AFAIK can't be, since it closely resembles the Tial unit.

I had a Tial with my T56 with an 11psi spring and it worked great. With the auto, it would gobble-gobble a little. Since I HAD to get a new one I opted for the 9psi spring.

It has dual outlets and no easy way to connect for sure.

I orderd the TiAL. I think the TurboSmart BOV isn't going to fit in the location I want to put it anyway. The TiAL looks smaller. We'll see when it comes in I guess.

Surging being cured with a BOV or Recirc valve is a bandaid and does not address the problem and sooner or later will still wear a unit out. Also surging is not always audible. Also the recirc valve is just causing the pressure differential to narrow between the intake and discharge.

Jose,

Thanks for the input, but what is the problem that is not being addressed?

And what do you recommend other than a BOV?

From what I gathered from the import crowd, narrowing the pressure differential from the intake to discharge helps more than just venting to the atmosphere.

Just remember that the import crowd generally runs higher boost on smaller turbos than "we" do. The bigger turbos are more resistant to damage from surge, especially since we're talking about 15 lbs of boost and not 30.

If your BOV is setup properly you should get some surge chatter right around 0 and at light boost, but it should vent properly at higher boost levels. Generally speaking you want the BOV to be closed at idle/cruise/light throttle.

I've ran without a BOV on my tow rig more than I've ran with one over the past 6 years, turbo is just fine.
