what would it take to get instant boost from a turbo 5.3 ala the BMW 335i?
My friend's 335i is absolutely awesome....it makes peak torque at 1400 rpms and holds that all the way up. Being 3500lbs helps too. In my craziness, I've been looking at used 5.3 motors, and can't believe how cheap they are. $200-300. I've been looking for a 6.0 in case mine goes for some reason, and I can't find anything I like for less than 14-1500 (low mile 05+ lq4). What would it take to get instant boost on a 5.3l that still pulled great up top? Would it take twins?

its a fine line and really how you define "instant boost" and "no loss up top" honestly it will be a compromise either way IMO... but you can find a preperly sized turbo that'll give you a lot of both... I dont think one can be had TOTALLY without the other...
I'd say a 70mm with .81ish a/r exhaust housing will be pretty close.... front mounted and with supporting mods of course

Reason you can find 5.3l's cheap is cause they are more mass quanity produced engine than any of the other ls motors. I am still waitin for Nonnie to post up some vid's of his new 2-step. He said with the 2 step set at 2500rpms he can get 3-4lbs of boost in park with it activated.
