Where to start on turbo 5.3
I have a 2001 escb sierra with a 5.3 as a DD and I'm looking to put a turbo on it. I'm new to the 5.3 performance and do not know where to start whether getting a cam, injectors, headers, exhaust, etc. i found a kit for roughly $4000 from STS which is good for up to 5 pounds of boost (I'm gonna start small and work my way up) so if you guys could kinda point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Call Rick at Trick Performance Products 940-781-5204. He can walk you through the right turbo kit for your needs, and it will a better turbo kit, and likely less expensive than STS. I'm running a kit he tailored for my application and needs that will run door to door with a new LS3 Corvette, and my truck is completely stock other than his turbo kit, even down to the stock muffler. My truck is also a Crew Cab with 24" wheels weighing just under 6000lbs.

turbo kits
basic or stage 2 kit. Something like an isky 212/212 112lsa cam or speed inc TU0 cam, hardened pushrods, springs, upgraded injectors, built trans, 3000-3200rpm torque converter, in person dyno tune would be best or get a base tune by using an autocal. You can start with low boost on both kits and work your way up when you are ready..
Or the kit posted above would work.

My truck is a daily driver, and I wasn't willing to have a lopey cam idle or foul smelling exhaust. I also didn't want to put in a stall converter since I still tow heavy loads with the truck. The stock exhaust keeps it so quiet that you don't even know its not stock until you get smoked. I would suggest no other mods but the turbo kit until you see how we'll you like it. If you want more, or to optimize the combo then look at cams, converters, boost controllers, and whatnot.
