Default 04 5.4 cold air intake

A friend of mine has an 04 Lariat with the 5.4 motor in it. He wants to put a cold air kit on it but knows nothing about which brand is better and where to get one for a cheaper price. I looked for him and everything I see if 300 bucks. Can anyone fill me in on these?

Just about all the intakes are $300 or so. I would look at the Roush, AEM, and Volant intakes. The Volant is nice because it has an option to put a ram air scoop under the front bumper to get a little cooler air. The Roush lists about the best gains out there. If it was me I'd just spend $2400 and get the Roush non-intercooled supercharger. Then call Mike Troyer at Troyer performance and get a custom tune from him and he'd be set. Truck will run fine with the Roush tune, but the tune from them leaves alot to be desired and alot of performance on the table. With that setup you should be around 325-350 at the wheels which will move these trucks pretty good. Won't be the fastest truck around, but can hold your own against the imports running around.

If you dont wanna go the Supercharger way, I recently bought a Roush cold air intake. I bought it cuz Roush is for Ford. You can get a K&N intake, or what ever brand, but I feel that they are more generic, and the Roush is made for your ford. I could be wrong, this is just my opinion... I found that In most cases that the Roush was less expensive as the other intakes. For the extra money, i combined the intake with a helix throttle body spacer. (Aprox $130). The gains I got was mostly low end torque. I noticed that on the highway and even bombin around town that my truck rpms were noticably lower, and the truck wont down shift as much. The install was easy, maybe 1 hr for both. Also, with another combo I dont know if the intake will have enough room with the throttle body spacer because with the roush, it just barely fit. If ur buddy is lookin for a big difference, I dont think he would find it with just an intake.

I agree with tommy1005 about the Roush blower tho.... really, for the price and for what you get, its more bang for ur buck. You can get a full intercooled kit for around 5000 that will come with warrenty for ur truck and supercharger....

forced induction is the best way to go, expecially as the CAI will require a custom tune anyway
