Default First Timer Ford

alright as u can prob guess by the title and my sig i'm a chevy guy. well it jus so happens that my gf's a ford lover and she wants a v8 in a ranger(go figure)
anyways, im not exactly what you'd call familiar with ford power other than the basics. i'm wanting to keep it fuel injected so she can drive it everyday but i also want it to be strong and give good performance. the power plant decided on was a 5.0 simply because of its ready availability. the tranny decided is an AOD. what cam, compression, stall, heads, etc are suggested for a possible 12 sec motor. i've searched and searched comp, lunati, etc and really no one makes many after market cams for ford.

basically we're tryin to put 2gether a good 12sec setup on motor and a who cares what it runs on bottle because it wont be sprayed often if ever.

ANY help is greatly appreciated

call up trick flow. they have some head/cam combos that on a 5.0 with stock compression could put a ranger in the 12's pretty easily, with the right stall and gears.

also AFR makes some even better heads. a little more, but great heads. look at an e-303 grind cam as well, i had one in a fox body 5.0, and was great streetability with good power.

i'm thinking that cam with a GT40 top end should do the trick as far as 12's are concerned

There is a ford ranger site that is dedicated to V8 swaps...you should check it out. Just google it cuz I forgot what the name of it was. My roomate has a ranger and wanted my old V8 so we looked into it.

stroking a stock block to a 347 is dangerous due to strength issues, kinda like making mad power w/ a 4 bolt main 400 sbc block

gt-40 top with a nice sized cam will go 12's easy, with a 3K+ stall and 4.10 gears.
