Default Fuel Pressure Regulator Leak/Failure?

I just got done installing my new fuel pump, intake and fuel system this past weekend switching from return-less to return style I ran the reference line from the fuel pressure regulator to the manifold as instructed and set my fuel pressure to 58 p.s.i at idle and the truck ran great with no hiccups past couple days.
Well this afternoon I disconnected the vacuum reference line for the regulator in-place of my vacuum/boost gauge just for temporary to see if the it work properly and when i cranked the truck there was fuel pouring out of the nipple on the regulator.

I assume this is not normal so did a diaphragm in the regulator burst and if so are they rebuildable? Its a regulator from Fuel Injector Connection and it looks similar to the Aeromotive 13101. Here's a picture of the rails and regulator
