The wire I'm thinking of is thicker than the stock pump crap. IIRC it's something like 12-14ga if I am thinking of the right one.

I just hooked power to the battery under my truck and ran a 8ga wire back to the tank. Used the factory Fuel pump wire (grey) to trigger my relay. Im runnin two 255 pumps all the time ( i forgot about hooking the second one up at the track and havent unhooked it yet) fed from a 10ga and a 8 ga wire. with a 8ga ground
Yes that's the wire I'm talking about. Do you know what size it is approx? I'm thinking of tapping into that wire at the fuel tank and run a wire to a relay near the pump module and use the stock pump wire as a trigger, just like you described. If the trailer wire is fused in the stock fuse box that would be sweet.

You can get a full plug n play harness from racetronix for about $65. Their CS isn't the best but I've been very happy with all the stuff I've received from them.

I have their kit on the shelf, I was just thinking of doing it myself for little to no cost and selling the kit.

You should be able to tap into the Accessory power wire for the trailer harness. It's bigger than most of the wires, so should be able to handle a higher load. I want to say that it's fused with a 40 or 50 amp fuse. From the factory they aren't connected at the fuse box, you'll have to check and see if yours is or if it needs to be hooked to one of the accessory studs, and you'll probably have to add a fuse for it as well. I'd imagine that would handle the draw...the downside is that it's always hot, so you'd have to figure that part out.

He said he was goin to use the factory fuel pump wire for a trigger.

but i believe that factory wire is a 14ga?

Not sure what the wire guage is, but if it's enough to be fused with 40-50 amps it should be enough to run the pump I'd think...

For a chassis application, 14 gauge is good to 30 amps continuous duty cycle. I don't know if even the biggest fuel pumps draw that much.. I get a laugh out of people using massive wire for their pumps lol.

Lol. I run dual 14 gauge 12v wires to my walbro 450s and a single 10 gauge for the ground of both pumps.
