It would be a neat experiment to put a couple pieces in a jar of gas. One completely submerged, and one half submerged. I wonder if they would both swell equally.

That is exactly what Wes at Sho me speed said he did with several pieces of hose . Said the gates had some issue after 6 mnths and now he uses a different hose in his dual kit.
