Default 02 Silverado 2wd - 4l80e Swap, 2" or 6" Crossmember Hack?

Just as the title states, I've searched and I keep finding both answers about cutting and moving back the center section of the crossmember. I'm thinking that's the measurements for both the 4x4 and the 2wd but I'm I unsure which is which. I thought it was 6" but I just want to double check as I won't be able to have my truck on site during the cutting/rewelding as we don't have a welder at our shop .... so I wanna get it right the first time. Thanks guys

I'd just get a crossmember from dirt track racer. It's a nice piece and everything lines up perfectly. Little bit of weight savings vs modding the factory one.

They're a great piece and a great option, no doubt but I'm not nickle and diming the scales with this truck and plus this is a free mod with just a little time. I'll cut and weld if up at a friend's shop, no biggie just wanna double check my measurements. I was almost positive it was 6.25" on the 2wds. Anyone?

That sounds like way too much to me... but I could be wrong.

It does sound like alot and we've done 1 already but it was 10 years ago.... and I've had a beer or 2 since then. It's a lot of confusion on this topic obviously but I think people are referring the 6" on the 2wd's as the front of the original cm to the back of the new middle segment. Here is a pic I found and a few links.

The pics shows 2.5 from front to front but the links refer to it as 6"
