I just did this a month or so ago. What I did, at least for now, was remove the actuator and measure how long the actuator was when engaged, it's about 3/4" by 3/4". So I used a piece of pipe cut to about that size, stuck it in there and screwed the actuator back in. So far it's held up just fine until I can redo the front axle and get a 1 piece right side. That kit, from what I've seen, is basically a $100 bolt, which seems insane to me. I was going to get a front axle from a Denali/Escalade, but those are all 3.73s, my truck is 3.42.

I plan to lower mine next summer too, mine isn't a Z71 but still sits up too high for me. I'm probably going to start with a 2/4 drop, and see how it looks, then go from there. I'm in a snow state, so I don't want to go too low and end up plowing with my bumper lol
