I haven’t done the conversion yet but you can do it two (maybe three) ways.
1) just get a complete AWD front differential from the junkyard
2) get the right side AWD stub and swap it for your 4x4 one. The AWD right spider gear has a grove cut in it to hold the axle in place, I’ve heard some 4x4 spider gears don’t have this grove.
3) they make a kit that replaces the 4x4 actuator that locks it in all the time….

I plan to lower mine next summer too, mine isn't a Z71 but still sits up too high for me. I'm probably going to start with a 2/4 drop, and see how it looks, then go from there. I'm in a snow state, so I don't want to go too low and end up plowing with my bumper lol
