I think rear discs look great, and offer better fade resistance. The problem with the rear disc is that friggin parking brake drum/shoe assembly, its nothing but problems. This weekend I pulled the shoe out of the driverside parking brake because I couldn't get it to stop riding on the drum, even with the updated clips.

Another think to note is drums will go a long long time before they wear out, where rear disc only last as long as the front brakes, in some cases they last a little longer, or in my case the rears go first.

After two repair shops and near $1000 in parts and labor, I've grown to love and hate my drum/disk setup in my 01 Suburban. I'm all for simplicity especially if it's cheaper to operate. Although discs on all fours do tickle my fancy

The problem with the disc/disc was definately the issues with the E-brakes.. Disc/disc is waaay better in my book.. The new disc/drum brakes stop better in GM's testing? Ok I'll buy that, but only because of the bigger front brakes they added.. Same fronts with discs in the rear, and I am sure that would be better yet.. The disc/disc setup cost GM a ton of $ in warranty expense, A TON Of $. There is no way anyone will ever convince me that disc/drum is a better setup. Pad life on the disc/disc is awesome.. Hey maybe the bigger fronts will also add pad life, I guess we will see..

Anyone have part numbers for the '05 discs? How much bigger are they? Will they fit prior vehicles?

Another GM MasterMind at work. Yea, Bob Lutz is going to save GM. Looks like another year of forgoing a new truck from GM for me. If the Drums are so great why, oh why are they still using the disks on the ss?
DRUMS SUCK GM, I HATED THEM IN THE 70's AND HATE THEM NOW. Poor wet stoping, poor heat dissapation and reduced axel bearing life!
Spending an extra 5 cents on the front to enlarge the front rotor and knuckle just so you can save 30 dollars, shafting people by replacing the rears with drums may seen like a good idea but the fact that people who know will not fall for your line of B/S.
