06 Sierra needs front rotors - Which should I get? - Not many choices
#21
My front rotors are now junk too. Problems started after stopping from a 100mph+ run... and I took it easy on the brakes slowing down, not standing on them the entire decel time, because it was a back road and I had more than plenty of room to bleed off speed. I have about 12k miles on the truck. I have 20's so more than likely i will upgrade to a larger front package. FWIW, I had a little chat with a GM Service Manager a couple of weeks ago about 06 brake problems. GM is apparantly having more problems with the rear drums than they are the front disks. I too tried the rear e-brake test and right now my drums are fine so I will leave them. At least Baer has a disk conversion kit available if I start having problems back there.

Thanks for the input.
I've tried to be careful with mine when slowing down from high speeds too.
It can get sketchy nowadays. no matter how careful I am, it get's BAD when they get real hot.
Good info from the service manager.
I will try my dealer again, maybe if they warranty them, I can wait a few months and there may be more options by then.

I replaced the front rotors on my 2005 sierra (which should be the same as your 2006) with some Napa brand rotors, and have had no problems so far (~3K miles). The OEM pieces are unbelievably $hitty, and if you get them turned to remove the warpage, there is that much less material to absorb the heat and they will warp even faster.
I tried to get a set manuf. by Wagner from O'Reilly's, but they were backordered with no estimated in-stock date. The Napa ones that I tracked down were the last two in the whole State of Texas. I think pretty much every 2005 and 2006 GM pickup is experiencing the same issue.
This one really soured me on GM. Cutting cost on something as critical as the brakes on heavy pickup trucks is a poor decision.

Thanks for the reply, how many miles have you put on them?
have you used them at 100mph+ many times?
Do they really still feel nice and smooth?

Good info guys,
The powerslots run about $100+ each.
I called Brembo back today, the guy says he is still waiting for an answer.
If the brembos are too much, I'll just get some powerslots I think.
I don't trust the R1 rotors, Nobody to tell me good or bad.
I found one import site where a guy says he likes them on his rice. that's it.
