Default 07 NNBS Performance Question - STALL CONVERTOR or 4:10 GEARS?

The truck is a 2007 NNBS RCSB 4.8L with 3:23 gears and the locking rear diff. It’s a dog off the line

There are 2 transmission shops nearby willing to do gear swaps and stall changes.

Both shops charge around $700 for OEM 4:10 gear parts and labor to install 4:10 gears.

Both shops will also charge around $900 for a Precision stall and labor.

My question - bang for the buck - will I benefit more from a nice precision 3000-3200ish stall converter or more from the 4:10? I am inclined to say the stall, but I am so used to 4:10 gears (had 4:10s in my last few vehicles), that these 3:23s are killin me!

Should I get the 4:10s for $700 or pay the extra $200 for the stall?

Thanks!

do the gears unless you plan on doing a cam. But even then most big cams don't like anything taller than a 3.73 so your 3.23's are gonna need to be replaced anyway.

Remember with perf mods work back to front and strengthen everything else before throwing boat loads of power and torque. since your tranny wont last long behind that big of a stall

What bluecajun said.

The 4.10s would help too, but bang for the buck is the converter.

could i effectively perform with only a good stall and 3:23 gears and lets say some type of FI or a moderate cam? just slap the 3200 stall in there, keep the 3:23 gears and a supercharger for example. or 3200 stall, same 3:23 stock gears and a 214/220 .560 111.5 cam as another example.

thanks!

I know your not new to the modding scene so don't take it as trying to educate you. But the best thing would be to figure out your ultimate goal with the truck.

I would tend to say the converter would be a better bang for the buck for all out performance, I know I wasn't all that impressed in my crew cab when I went from 3.42's to 3.90's. Just going from a stock converter to a 2500 stall put a grin on my face ear to ear.

thanks gents! i was leaning to the convertor side anyways, so i may go that route. a nice precision should put that grin on my face. ive got some time to think about it though, i havent even started my mod list and process.

open to any other suggestions though.

Just saw your earlie post Vtodd, that 214/220 111.5 cam is what I am planning for my truck.

I wouldn't think that you would need as high as a 3200 stall for it. I'm going with a 3000, but even then, that should be plenty. I would personally like to see how a truck would run with a larger stall, cam, bolt-ons and some 3.23's in it. Should definitely give you some great gas mileage if you do alot of highway driving like myself.
