Default 1 Piece Steel Drive Shaft

I know guys have broke these, but has anyone broke one AFTER it was correctly balanced? Looking to push 500TQ on mine, rev to 6500, 120max MPH.

Local driveshaft place wants to balance it and replace the universal joint with a Performance Dynamics piece.

Feedback?

not sure if anyones broken one after its been balanced. the steel is pretty thin though, so i would get one built and make sure your pinion angle is good.

I'm well past 500 rwtq and have gone much faster than 120 mph. I run my rpms to 6800. Stock drive shaft has been high speed balanced and works fine.

It's a ticking time bomb though! Do a search more than one has grenaded on a chassis dyno.

Thanks quick, that's what I was looking to for. Raffman if he's cutting 1.5's 60' and running 10's, I think his day on the dyno is light work. With that said, if you can find someone who has it balanced and it let go, please post the link, that's the purpose of this thread.

I'm sure balancing would help but the problem is the weight of these trucks vs the HP and torque the motors are capable of. The whole drive train was never expected to withstand 500 to 600 RWH........

It has been on the truck for hundreds of passes and held up just fine. I've grenaded rearends and several transmissions and motors over the years. The drive shaft will do just fine if it is high speed balanced. They come apart on the dyno because they have not been balanced and are subjected to speeds you will not see on the road. When they balanced mine, they spun it up on the machine and you could see it quivering around pretty good. The guy said it was within factory specs. After he balanced it, he spun it up again and it was straight as an arrow.

If it's workin for ya great. Personally I hate breaking ****, I'd rather spend the money now and avoid the headache later.

Update: My freshly balanced 1 piece steel shaft with a brand new GM yoke and u-joins let go over the weekend. I was running about 9 psi and a little over 100 MPH and it sounded like a damn bomb went off. I didn't know if it was my block, rear end, or driveshaft. Got very lucky, didnt touch NOTHING coming apart, the yoke is still in transmission and rear pinion still installed. Just no driveshaft. I even went down the highway strip looking for it the next day, couldn't find it. Was truely scary though, talking with "Driveshaftshop.com" about getting either a 3.5 or 4inch aluminum one made.


With that saids, any one piece guys out there, here's another heads up.
