Talking 1000 Hp Rear end.

Hello,
We are about to installing a 408 into my 00 chevy silverado 4x4 1500 with a Gt76 turbo and 4l80e tranny. When we get it done we may be seeing 1000 chp or more. I know that the reg. 1/2ton stock rear will not hold up to the motor. I have 16x10 wheels and 33x12.50 tires. and i have no clue as to what rear end to put under it that will hold up. what ever rear we are doing 4.1's... Thanks for all the help in adv.

parish had that exact same combo, I remember him saying something about the 76 on his 408 as spooling right off idle but a little small for procducing max numbers hopefully he'll jump in

IIRC Parish just grenaded his driveline at the track.

For 1000 hp, you'll probably need a built 12 bolt or Ford 9". That's a whole lotta twist.

Been a few that have toasted the clutches but as far as grenading one like a G-80 I dont think so.

Go with the 12bolt like I recommended to begin with leanlow it is bullet proof when built right.

9" ford, Dana 60, chrysler 8 3/4, or 14 bolt chevy. The 14 bolt would probably be the "easiest" choice, but probably the most expensive to build to hold those kind of numbers.

My SSR has the 14 bolt semi-floater 9.5" rear axle, this should be fine for your buildup. The housing is huge and only comes in the SSR with 6 Speed transmission.

What is nice about the SSR rear axle is that it has an eaton locker, 3.73 gears, disc brakes, anti-lock sensors and already has the correct 6 lug pattern. I am just not sure of the difference in the width and you would have to remove all the rear suspension mounts. The SSR has a 5 link rear suspension with coil springs, if you could find a wrecked SSR 6 Speed it would be nice to fit up the entire rear suspension to a RCSB 2WD.

you can get the same 9.5" rear from a 2005 or newer 1/2 ton with an LQ9 and 2wd. from there just put a detroit locker in and you should be fine.
