Default 14 bolt factory locker?

So this is the factory locker that came out of my 2006 2500HD, 14 bolt, 10.5" definently not a Gov-loc so what is it? Part# AAM-40012325 / R0506248 stamped on the case. Contacted AAM with no luck, also went to the local dealership with no luck. Looks like a plain ol Detroit locker to me, which to the best of my knowledge Detroit/Eaton manufacturers the lockers/Gov-loc for GM vehicles.

Looks like a standard 10.5 Gov Lock to me.

Gotcha, all the Gov-locs I've seen have exposed center sections.........when did the design change? Or is this particular design unique to certain models?

The 8.5 and 9.5 are like that.

The 10.5 is a totally different animal. Here is an internal look at the guts of one.

I see said the blind man, my coworker has a 03 duramax with the 11.5" 14 bolt that had a Gov-loc with the exposed center section like I'm used to seeing so mine threw me for a loop, at least now I know I didn't slap a tru-trac in there for no reason .

here is a used gov lock for sale so you can see what i mean.

Some have more ribs and some have less ribs than others. I could not tell you the difference or why they are like that.

When you open up a 10.5" that's what you want to see and is an actual locker. Yes that's a Detroit locker...the gov lock pictured in the first post is good to go in a scrap metal bin.

That's a Detroit locker the same as my first two pictures. It doesn't come with it's own dedicated carrier and fits in place of the spiders in a factory open carrier. GM used to offer the Deteoit locker in the 70s and 80s as a factory option in the 10.5" and that's why it's designed this way..

My 2017 2500HDs 10.5" AAM is identical in most parts including gears and carrier to the very first 10.5" corporate from 1973. I used an 80s truck carrier in mine to put a Detroit in it.

Nice thanks for the info guys, I had heard about the 14 bolts with the open center section, I think Yukon gear makes a "drop in" locker as well for the open diffs.

Yeah they make the Grizzly line which is blatant rip off of Eaton. That one pictured laying on the console above was 360 dollars brand new on Amazon... Canadian dollars too lol. It was legit and came in an Eaton box. I bought the last one and when the seller restocked they were 800 dollars lol.
