So ive installed 2 sets of gears into my truck in the last month...lol "4.56 / 4.88". Well the 4.56 are richmond brand and the 4.88 are motive brand, NOT BASHING BRANDS HERE.

Well both sets have had a very annoying amount of gear whine and both were setup properly with a pinion depth checking tool and backlash right in the middle. not sure what the 4.56 clearances were, 4.88 was .006-.008 and were set at .007 with a pinion depth 2.513 which was engraved into the end of the pinion. No doubt they were setup properly and new bearings and races both times.
Talked to a fella at Moser today and he said with performance gears like the ones i have "meaning low ratio", he said there going to produce anywhere from a slight amount to enough the radio cant take care of it. Well gladly mine are just a slight amount of noise, but annoying!!!!! Has anyone else had dealings with noisy gears???????

Were both set heat cycled correctly??? Just because they were setup rite doesnt mean the break-in was done rite..

I have AAM’s in the rear and if I recall correctly, Yukon’s in the front due to AAM not making 4.56’s for the 8.25” IFS differential and they are both perfectly quite. I purchased the gears through Pyle Bros and they installed them and of course hit the set-up right the 1st time out of the box. They've been in there for 4 years with no issues.

cycle - 4.88's probably not... run for about 100 miles around the house cycling them, then was hauled to the dyno and street tuned, then drove from alexandria, LA to Baton rouge.

4.56's not sure because i shouldnt have but i bought them used off my cousin so they had the chance of him not cycling them

the first 50 miles were at 5 to 10 mile intervals with a 30 min cooldown between then i went 25 miles and cooled for roughly 2 hr then 25 miles back and cooled all night.

being used probably would be the problem, were both sets used? how heavy the oil you use?

its highly recommended to cycle gears but i probably use the cheapest gears out which are USA gears which im running now, my heat cycle consist of installing and then hitting the track lol and still no issues, figure a 1320 run then cool down then again and again and again is a good heat cycle lol
