Default 200-4R swap

I know this is a stout trans.... if I was to ever be looking at buying another transmission for my truck, this would be it. I know the 80E swap is common but I believe the power capability is better in the 200. Better gearing as well. Does anyone have any experiences with it? How do you think the swap could be done?

I am curious to know this as well... What is the gearing anyway??

TRANSMISSION 1ST 2ND 3RD OD
Turbo 350 2.52 1.52 1 N/A
Turbo 400 2.48 1.48 1 N/A
200- 4R 2.74 1.57 1 0.67
700R4 / 4L60 3.06 1.63 1 0.7
4L80E 2.48 1.48 1 0.75

Looks like the 200-4R is a compromise between the 4L60e and 4l80e in terms of gearing.

You tried talking to Hit Man on gmfs? He loves that trans; its got a little higher first gear and close ratio gears. I'd like to see it done in one of our trucks.

They have problems, but they make lots of very strong parts for them. They have less internal parts than conventional GM OD trannys. They are pretty light duty and have a few stamped steel parts inside (which are weaker). I know they can be built to handle over 1000hp though. Also they are shorter than a 4L60 and were never offered with a 4WD so there are some more challenges.

out of curiosity, what do you plan on doing that would ever require more than what a 4l80e with a shift kit could handle?

200r4 is definetly strong when built right, my buddy has a Monza with a procharged 434 in the neighborhood of 800rwhp in it and runs one, never had any problems with it.
