That's only the fancy automatic case, the manual shift and non-auto 4wd case use trans fluid.

YES! these are not the same fittings that most fuel lines use. There is a little spring clip you have to PICK out of the plastic fitting.

I still dont see a 2 foot 3/8 extension. Go get one. thats how you get to that top bolt and it makes putting the other bolts in a lot easier.

Make sure you remember where the bell housing bolts/studs go. Some were different lengths with mine and caused me to futz with it a while before I found it.

If you want to practice with the E clips the fittings on the radiator for the trans are the exact same...

A screwdriver on the line at the trans sounds easy and all, but where the trans sits right now, there's no way. I tried for a while to sneak in there with all different size screwdrivers that have very thin and narrow blades. They are corroded and pretty nasty.

I did see they are the same at the rad side. I had a '98 Grand Prix that had the same setup and a pick was easy enough to remove the cllp. I'll try them with a pick first, if that doesn't work, the special tool will do the trick.

I have a long extension on standby, I think it's about 3' long. Just need to drop the xfer case so I can see the bolt since my tree-trunk fingers can't get to it by feel.

Smurf blood LOL.

Love the responses here! Thank you all so much.

A small pick with either a curve or a 90 work better than a screwdriver on the trans line clips....

Got the trans out! Used a pick on the E clips and the cooler lines popped out. Trans broke free with some pry bars and light tapping of a hammer. Dowels are nasty.

Off to the trans builder it goes. I'll update the thread from there.

For anyone interested in a pro builder whose trademark is making 4L60e's hold up to big power and not break the bank, here ya go:

This will only be a stock rebuild but I have his Pro Race in my T/A and its a work of art.

He's alluding to the influx of cheap Chinese 5 pinion planetaries know to be problematic. The real GM ones are quite a bit more $$, and worth it.

I am not a pro, and this is only what I've read.
