Well here is the news, I am applying the warranties! The ase trans mechanic will rebuild the 60e to a built unit, and Im going to put it up for sale after its back to perfect condition. Im going to get converter switched out under warranty as well so I can throw a 36-3800 stall behind the 80e. My other mechanic is going to pull the tranny today to take it to my trans shop. Im looking for a small diameter stall but I will see what Frank with the converters recommends.

Where do I find a cross-member at that will support my same driveshaft?

ok, well here are the updates...

Got a 4l80e trans picked up with 30K miles on it, going to have my trans guy go through it, and upgrade to a hd-2 shift kit, install my 3700 stall converter. Then go get my pcm reflashed by my tuner Alvin.

After I bought the tranny, I went straight to the converter company, and they were pretty standup. So the new converter will be a billet and stage 5, and stall about 3700 rpm with a 9.5 diameter, Minus the difference of my 60e stall price.

All I need to do now, is get the harness ends, or repin a harness to work the 80e, and add the extra VSS sensor.
I also need a crossmember that will support my current 1 piece shaft.
Also I yoke that is long for the 80e is what I read.

But hey guys, if you have some good helpful links for me, please can you post them to this thread.

Here is what my new converter will look like.

Ill post pics of the 80e shortly.

Holy Crap! What a converter! That thing looks like it can withstand a few thousand HP! What brand is that and how much was it?

its home, just lifted the 4L80e off of the truck.

and the converter it came with

ill be replacing that^^ with this bellow

that son of a bitch tranny is heavy, this one has 30K miles on it. Im going to have my ASE trans guy put a transgo hd2 kit on it, and see what it does with my 3700 stall converter that is 9.5 diameter.

Got to find me a cross-member and get the wiring together with correct yokes.

My 60e was fully built...everything that could have been done to it was done. What killed it was an extreme amount of load. I was brake stalling at the track and the input sprag bit the dust. Being lighter is a HUGE advantage when it comes to transmissions. Brake stalling like that was probably the equivalent of me towing a 10k lb trailer up a hill in 1st at full boost, converter unlocked. They can take a lot of torque, but not a lot in the weight department.

And if you're talking about my 80, it turned out to be just fine. Just some metal shards in it from the converter. Clutches got replaced though!

You'll love the 80E. I like mine as much as my new engine. It instills confidence and shifts so quickly. It is a must have item and is pretty easy to swap.
