2000 Z71: Bouncy Front End Cure?
#11
Started out with 2 rotations just to see. Definitely noticed a slight improvement the moment I backed out of the driveway. There was no pitching side to side when going over the curb. Felt better driving.
Came back and went 1 more full turn (3 total now) and the truck is noticeably much better. Steering control and handling is back, nice and tight over road bumps with no pitching side to side or unwanted up/down travel. No move diving on hard braking either. Feels good AND my alignment actually improved. I had a very slight pull to the left which has now gone away. I'll stick check alignment anyway but it's better.
There is still some bounce on the stationary bounce test so I am debating whether to go 1 more full turn to 4 like you recommended. I assume 4 turns will not affect shock travel, correct?
Very happy right now, truck feels like new again in the front. Thankie

I think the springs were sagging and taking the shock out of its "range"
Kind of hard to tell, but see where you line up with another truck that doesn't have its bars cranked. You want to return to stock height, maybe a bit higher.

Did a little measuring today of the 4 sides and all 4 come in at different ride heights. I knew this long ago just by looking at the truck, but the heights are a little odd. (measured from ground to middle lower lip of fenders)
Drivers front 37.5"
Pass front 36.75"
Drivers rear 38.25"
Pass rear 38.75
Anyone know what these heights should be (approximately) on a stock Z71?

Everything looks as i expected. If your drivers front is higher, your driver rear will be lower (think seasaw). Also, reduce from the center of the wheel up to avoid differences from the road and tire inflation/load

Alright, I will give that a try tomorrow morning.
I stopped by the local Chevy dealer and measured the heights on a couple trucks, one new Z71 and one used Z71.
The new Z71 measured 35" in height, the used one (2002) measured 36"

basically it sounds like your torsion bars need to be replaced because their spring rate has changed so much that your shocks aren't able to do their job. Either that or get stiffer shocks.
