I didn't swap, my suburban came with AWD, but I can give an answer to your questions.

I have mixed feelings about the AWD. It depends which driving mode is more important to you. It's great for drivability, pulling out into traffic, bad weather, you just punch it and you're moving quickly. Also you get the benefit of if the roads are mostly clean but patchy slipperiness, I'm in 4x4, whereas without AWD you don't put it in 4wd because of the clean parts of the road. I like it alot for those.

Of course, on the other hand, if you want to do the occasional burnout/drift/donut, you're out of luck, unless you have lots more hp than I have. For me, I can live with that though since I can hop in my LS1 Z28 or on my XR650R if I'm feeling frisky :drive

I know this thread is old as ****, but I just finished my AWD conversion on my 03 silverado, new rh axle tube & shaft and all that, unplugged the tccm and still have a service 4wd message. Ever happen to any of you guys, if so what’d you find?

plug it back in and plug in the encoder and ziptie it to the frame. Easy mode

hard mode: look up the wiring changes needed for the 241 swap. Been years since I did this, but there are some wiring changes to perform at the TCCM to keep the light off, but I still have my TCCM and I expect you will also need to keep yours unless you reprogram your BCM as not a 4x4

Your truck is also looking for the CAD servo up front. I think we can put a resistor in there to appease that feedback loop. But it's 4 wires up there and I don't which ones are the check and which ones are motion, or if they are even broken down like that

well the OP had a manual t-case, so that rules him out for answers.
i never ended up doing mine & kept the 4x4... but mine's also a manual t-case anyway.

So that might be a solution. A same option 2wd BCM or a same option manual t case 4wd BCM

You will probably have better luck starting a new thread with a better title for what you want. Search though, I know of at least a couple SUVs that did this. I know one was a Denali, not sure if the other was an escalade.

Reviving this thread to avoid making a new one.
Im doing an AWD conversion on an OBS, being ignorant to how gearing works, Im not sure what rear gear ratio I have.

My question is, since im doing a 4.10 up front, would it affect my TC if i have something other than a 4.10 out rear?
Those SS rear axles are hard to come by.

Front and rear gear ratios must match.
