Default 2004 5.3, 4L60E Tranny Lag

Has anyone had problems with shift lag from 1-2 gear? I put a Hypertec Program on it and it seemed to help, if your on the gas it does fine but if you just ease into it it feel like it wants to skip second gear...also about how long do these tranny's last before needing a rebuild? It's got 96K miles on it.

Hypertech is crap, also your shift points may be waaaaaay outta whack from the Hypertech tuner.

As far as how long a 60E lasts? Depends on how much weight it's moving and how much HP it's being fed. Can live from anywhere between 10 feet to 250,000 miles (although most of them die right at the 100k mark). Check your fluid level, see if it's red or brown and if it smells burnt.

If your skipping second gear I would be concerned that the band might be slipping. If you remove the programmer how does it act?

I put 204,000 hard miles on one, and it lives on in a tahoe now. This things will blow up with a few miles on them, and others last a long time.Better get it built soon by the sound of it.

Without the tune it was worse. The guy at Hypertec recommended upping the shift RPM's by 300 for each gear and a 50% shift firmness. I went up to 75% shift firmness just to see how it would react and it did well, but i went back down to 50% just because i was afraid of damaging it. I waited until after 75k miles to change the fluid and filter which was prolly not a good decision.

I researched programmers for a while and all the reviews i read about Hypertec said they were good so that's what i went with, what would you recommend?
