3.42 w/ FI 6.0 and 4L80e ???
Currently running 4:10s with my setup....dont like the high cruising RPM at freeway speeds...anyone with a similar setup running 3.42s? i know there are a ton of you with 3.73s and i may very well go back to those...but maybe 3.42s will be fun too.... thoughts....feedback, rants, raves, beer, women...whatever you got... i wanna know.

i love my 3.42's for mileage on the highway, 22mpg at 65, which is about 1600 rpm. I really would like to have the pep of 4.10's, but second gear takes me to 95 mph which is fun on the freeway, it just keeps pulling and pulling.

i want to drop the rpm/...jsut not too much...prob go back to 3.73...but need to completely rule out the 3.42 first. its not a daily driver..lots of fun...and a longer gear would help with launch....

I'll never go back to 3.42s (unless turbo I suppose). 3.42 blow donkey nuts imo. I'm getting 2mpg better around town with the 4.10s over the 3.42s (that includes some highway too - speaking of highway, it's so much nicer cruising around 2000 rpm compared to 1500, no more sloppy pedal). With the 80e first gear and 3.42s it be a huge first gear, I like my gears to pull quickly.

I have 3.42s, stock converter-80E with a 28" tire.. I love it..
Tall first gear does help with traction, and I'm running 2150rpms at 70.
New tires/Rims are goin to be 30.5" tall, I'm tryin to get my RPMs at or below 2000 cruising at 70.
I don't know about with the Blower and such, but I figure 3.73s would be what your lookin for? but there's not a whole lot difference in 3.42/3.73s..
Guess yoy could try them out and let us know
I'm not giving up my 3.42s, got 195k miles on them bad boys.

But from a off idle punch, they will chirp and do their best to spin, but not much.. Now if I stall it up a little, well say bye bye to the rubber.
I spun the slicks last time we went out on the street, but I brake stalled it and left on 5#. then they hooked and off I went.

You're wanting 3.73s from what you're describing... I went from 4.10 to 3.73, and the only other thing I need is to throw this tru-(rac in... The gears are about perfect for my setup... What converter are you going with in that 80? Unless you're trying to run that thing up over 150 all the time I'd go with the 3.73...
Now, I know there are some definite differences in our setup, but I've said it before; I think its the best all around gear.
