I'm assuming you have 3.42's right now? What kind of truck? RCSB? ECLB?

The more gear you have, the better off-the-line performance you will have. Is gas mileage a concern?

Yes 3:42s are in right now and its a RCSB gas mileage might be a concern im thinking 3:73's should do the job

Just depends what you want. If you do some high way racing I would stick to 3.73:1 and just use a shorter 26" et street when go to the track. If you still want more more low or off the line performance, upgrade to a vig 3200.
On the other hand if you plan on getting a decent size cam in there, I do 4.10's.

3.73s so you can go with oem gears they are quieter and stronger from what everyone has said.

I think 4.10's are just fine for highway racing, I get all the mph I want out of them with 32" tires. so 3.90's would be fine in this case too, assuming a smaller tire, if thats the goal.

I think the biggest concern is rpm at highway cruising which can mean many things.....to include noise, gas mileage, engine wear, etc etc.

the next biggest thing, in my mind, would be OEM gears vs aftermarket, I would choose OEM over aftermarket first, however, you CAN go with an aftermarket set and get no-to-low noise as with the OEM, just have to pick a quality gear.

3.73's are the best highway gear for gas mileage, if you run between 70-75 mph.

not in every case, but in our case I would say this is true.
