Default 3 Quarts for rear axle?!? WTF?

This acticle says 3 quarts??? Chevy tells me 2.1 quarts and many others here as well. Check out the link.

I always assumed it says 3 because you can't buy .2L containers and you need 3 total to do the job. Of course after the first time, you can use the leftover for the next time and only buy 2 qts

The aluminum covers increase the capacity some, so maybe 2.5 with the new cover I would think.
