Default 4.10 gear whine?

I recently had a set of OEM 4.10's and a G-80 locker installed in my 02 RCSB pickup. Goin down the interstate at about 70mph I can hear a noise that sounds like a tuning fork...sometimes its barely noticable and other times its rather loud. the noise comes on between 70-85 mph on acceleration and deceleration but out of that range it is completely silent. I drove the truck for a week before any WOT thrashing. I've heard this is common with 4.10's, is there any way to make it a little quieter?

I had an 01 RCSB w 4.10's and Eaton posi, and never had any noise. Most of the time if you hear noise, it was not set up properly. That's what I've heard anyway. Did you have a shop install them?

OEM gears do not make noise unless the install is bad.

They're OEM, but i've noticed that the noise isn't very constant...sometimes it's there and sometimes its not. Whatever the case if it gets worse i'll take em' back to the shop they were installed and have them done again. I have not head the noise since yesterday moring going to work.

Mine will whine every so often...however I have been told that if you foot the extra money for OEM gears and the install is decent, they will be silent. Put an additive in it will be what the shop says...or just does without telling you.
