Default 4.30 gears with 6.0?

Im putting my 20s on next week. My tires will be 285/50/20s after doing lots of research, and I have a level 2wd with tbars maxed. I want that combo to fill up the wheel wells some. Im pretty settled on them, after looking at a good bit of pictures.

The rims will be SSS wheels in size 20. I know that the SS truck came with 4.10 gears with the 20s and was geared for performance. I currently have 3.73 gears and the 6.0. I was thinking some 4.30 gears give me some extra lowend power, so I can smoke the 20s, and get my *** off the line even a lil quicker than it is now. I also like to cruise about 70-85mph. So I really dont know if I should do this gear swap. I was thinking with the heavier wheel/tire, I should come out close to a 4.10 gear or something?

Things to consider is my truck is a heavy Tahoe. It moves out good on the stock 265/70/16s now. So I really would hate for it to slow down right now. Future plans for my 6.0 is a TVS somewhere in my future. SO I dont know how my gears will affect that as well.

I know the 65e are a week tranny, and more gear will help my trans last longer. I had 1st hand experience with these trannies and weight in the past. Which is why more gear is on my mind. With a shiftkit, trucool, more gear, I can prob make things last behind my 6.0?

Not worth the switch just to go from 3.73 to 4.10, but 4.30 or 4.56 would be worthwhile. Don't forget to upgrade your servo(s) along with the shift kit, Tru-Cool, and gears if you are trying to extend the life of your 65e without going deeper into the transmission internals.

i run 4.56s with a tire 2.5" shorter than yours, with a decent powered 5.3. i too cruise around 70-75...i wouldn't be a bit scared of 4.30s

IMO if you want to be a hard ***, you could run 4.56's!!!! but id stick with the 4.30's... only a 275 rpm difference .. and no they wont hurt your gas milage anymore, they are
helping your motor turn easier, which is letting it use less fuel.

Thanks I think Ill be stick'n with 4.30s & 20s if thats the case right now. I know the VMAX has tons of tq already, I just wanted the extra "leveerage" I guess. I average 18.5 hwy now, and about 13.5-14 city. LOL

Didnt know if to (A) Do the gear swap or (B) Do a stall or (C) A cam to wake the VMAX up and keep the 3.73s for mileage. It just does so well right now, it lugs around effortlessly, and rpms stay at 13-1400 at times grunting uphill without shifting. I would hate to loose all of this if I keep 3.73s and not step it up with the new 20s.

hmmm, I would like my Vmax to act like this once tuned. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZHNDoC-aPQ
What gears do you think that guy has in his truck? It reacts nicely I think. Im certain 4.30s could achieve this, but his wheels dont appear to be 20s either, I cant see clearly. Im going to get stall and cam next, thats for sure. I was looking at a cam to work with the current stall even. As my low stall may help at part throttle cruising. Its my stall from my 5.3 behind the 6.0 so it stalls higher prob 2200 or so theoretically.

I run 4.30's and love them. Felt a bit better than the 4.11's did and keeps me from going too far over 130 which is around 6400 rpm in 3rd

You're switching gears just so you can do a burnout?
You should be able to power stall from the factory. If not just a tune will take care of that.

You run 20s too right? Yea, that was one of my deep question, Will the 4.30s allow me to get to those speeds. I honestly cruise 80mph on a given day, and quick spurts to tripple digits at times. But I do spend a share amount of city driving, and light in the metropolis. Stop and go traffic as well.
