Default 4/6 and 22's clearance question....

Alright guys,
I have been looking around and i happened to come across the little discount tire tire calculator thing. I punch in the stock size which is 255/70/17 and the overall height was 31.06" tall. Then i punched in 265/40/22 which is the tire size im running now that i was told will rub and they are 30.35" tall.

So how is that possible? If the over 31" tire will clear fine with the 4/6, why wont the 30.35" tire clear with the 4/6?

Is there a width issue or something im missing here. I know backspacing is an issue but the rims are 22x9 with 5.5" backspacing so im sure they will clear fine. Someone let me know what the difference is here and why it is required to run a 265/35 tire on 35's with a 4/6-4/7 drop?

I believe you anwered your own question. There's a with issue plus 40's are too tall of a tire for a 4-6 drop. You need 30's.

Alright, it just didnt make sense to me when i saw the numbers cause i couldnt figure out why the over 31" stock tire would clear but the 30.35" tire wouldnt.

Do the stock tires rub on a 4/6?

very little if any... thats only under hard cornering or some big swoopy bumps where the suspensions cam compress a lot.

I found a set of 17" machined esky wheels with 255/60/17 Toyo tires with 5,000 miles on them for a very good price. Those tires are 29.05" tall. Would that be a better size to run on my 4/7 until i get my next set of 22's? I just need a good stock set to hold me over so i can my current 22's off to sell them to get the money for my next set of 22's.

Stock tires will be fine with a 4/6 or 4/7, I have ran mine many times. Since the stock wheels sit so far inside the fenders, they have a lot of backspacing and are narrow, you can run a bigger tire and tuck it in the fenders.

Ok cool. I really didnt want to have to downsize the tire cause of gas mileage and rpm's on the freeway. Thanks for the info man!

Id like to see the 275/55/17 on a truck with a 4/6. Those would probably look nice cause they would have some width to them.
