Default 4.88 gears and G80 carrier

Has anyone had some 4.88 gears with the g80?

my question is, i got some yukon 4.88s i want to get installed this weekend, and i called randys ring and pinion and the tech said i needed a notched crosspin.

anyone have any experience with this?

i ordered from rons machining service, and he mentioned nothing about this...

any info would help.

thanks,
Keith

never put them on a G80 but the couple sets I have installed (on Eatons and Tru-tracs) have fit fine with no mods to the case or carrier.

Im not sure if this is the info your looking for but when I installed my 4.88s on the stock open carrier I had to grind a little off the ring gear. Just one tooth, very little allowing the cross pin to go in.

I have heard of that, but instead of grinding the gear, we've always ground the pin on a bench grinder about 1/16" or so down one side and it fit fine, this was only for 5.13s though, never needed to for 4.88s. The ring gear is very thick and partially covers the hole that the pin has to go thru.
