True but its stronger than the 60E with the 5 pinion planetarys.

so your one step ahead, take the 2 trans and get some good clutches and a shift kit and have a good trans on your hands.

You'll have to swap output shafts...Check the plug connections as well..The tbss 70 is controlled by its own computer so the connections may be different...

4l70 swap completed a couple of days ago. So far no problems after several full throttle launches, and about 100 miles. The only difference was my output shaft, and the box that goes on the shifter linkage shaft, which was easily changed while the output shaft was not so easily changed. The trans was out of an AWD TBSS I assume that if it were a 2wd trans the output shaft would be the same. I feel good about the swap shifts feel good, better that the 4l60 before the clutches going out, the 70 feels like a nice positive shift between 1-2, 2-3. I also used the TBSS torque converter which yielded about a 1500 stall speed, i was hoping for 2000 plus, oh welll now the truck at least moves out of 2nd gear. I couldn't find alot of info on this swap outside of this forum, so hopefully others may find this useful. I think That the 70 should be a much easier swap than the 80 if the output shaft is the same, while still being an upgrade in strength over the 4l60 junk trans.
