I think it's better to see this comparison as a percentage than actual HP numbers no?. Wouldn't it be a greater difference the more power he makes? Like if he made twice the power wouldn't the losses also increase?

This is a great thread! NicD You are the KING of the direct dyno comparisons!

I can't wait to get an 80e in my truck. I'll run some shorter tires at the track to help it out of the hole and then hopefully the closer ratios will take over from there and the net effect will be close to nothing... Not to mention that I will be taking away from the rolling mass in the wheel/tire combo, while adding to it in the tranny... tough call for sure.

I really want that 100 MPH trap speed too... I can only imagine this tranny will help.

Lets say you lose 15HP/15LBs TQ @ 500HP/500LBS TQ. That basically translates in to a 3% loss going from a 4L60E to 4L80E.

A 4L60E In a heavy vehicle isn't going to last long above those levels anyway so what would it really matter how much you lose.

Don't forget the stock 4L80E is quite a bit heavier than the stock 60E converter, sapping a little more power on an inertial dyno.

I have a 01 lq4 with a red blue wiring harness. I am looking at placing a 4l80e in place of the 4l60E. I work at a salvage yard so i can get the other vss plug and wire it in and i think i can use the same wiring change on the harness at the trans used for the red green harness. My question is is this correct. Can i still do this or does anyone know. I dont see a need in having to spend alot of money on a custom converter when i can use a stock 6.0 flywheel from a truck that had a 6.0 in it if i am going to use the 4l60e trans.
