Transmissions are something that smog shops never check.

exactly, i live here its not THAT big of deal,
the place where we get screwed is with the old cars like my 84 blazer, im stuck with my pos carberator unless i wanna retrofit the ENTIRE system from a new truck/car thats just gay with all the aftermaket EFI systems out there, not to mention i cant use the far supiorior vortec heads over my stock castings.

Just swap motors and trans, trans no big deal, engine...looks and fuctions the same, no big deal, now if u were putting the LQ9 into a jeep you would have a much bigger hassle.

I work at a Test only (Ref) station in California. My tech wouldn't know a 4L80e from a hole in the gound.

the 4l60e is a prety good tranny from a performance stand point especialy compared to the 4l80e. depending on how far you want to go with the truck you might want to just stick with the 60. chuck from FLP builds a killer 4l60e. mine survived thru many brutal launches in my old truck. a 6.0 with 10psi and a 100shot finialy took it out but he has implemented some new upgrades based off of what i broke.

Parish is right ... the 60e is a good trans, it just needs to be built in the hands of those who know what they're doing. JET is not one of those people. I can't say anything about TCI, btu I can say that the FLP seems to hold up well from Parish's experiences. If I would have bought one, that's what I would have gone with.

the 4l60e is in No Way a performance transmission. You can get them built up, but the size and strength of the 60 is just not there. I wish I actually knew a thing or two about these trannies when I got my truck. I would have known better than to have a built 60 put in my truck rather than just going to an 80.

All I want to do is a mild cam, CAI, headers 3.73's, limited slip (maybe that one without the disks in it I think its the true track...anyone know anything about those?), and that programer from crane or comp cams...I cant remember wich one has the programer...I think I can pass the sniffer if I use something mild like that ls6 cam the stock one...its the first one listed in the cam thread under 5.3.....do you still get good highway mileage with that flp trans? I was looking at that JET trans because it changes the ratio in over drive so that your gas mileage can get better or wont get TOO BAD when you have gears....what kinda highway mileage do you guys get with your FLP trannys....I just dont want it to almost break the windows when it shifts...ha ha....my fiance is gonna drive it when I go on deployments because her F-150 is a piece of crap....did I say piece...I meant PILE...its bigger than a pile...but not quite the HEAP...ha ha...
Do you guys think I can get into the low 14's reliably in a RCSB with those mods and someting like a 2800 stall or smaller?

The only thing that could get you in trouble visually would be replacing a 2001-2005 NON-EGR motor into a 1999.5-2000 truck. If the tech sees your car is supposed to be equiped with and EGR and it is not it may not pass. It depends on how picky the tech wants to be. I don't think any of these smog "techs" could visually tell (or care) the difference between a 5.3L and a 6.0L or a 4L60E and a 4L80E.
