Default 4l60e - 4l65e swap w/6.0L

Hello all,
I am finally getting around to the motor swap in the truck. Current trans needs a rebuild before too long and I doubt would withstand the 6.0 for very long. In this case, it seems best to replace everything at once.

I have spoken with flt and performabuilt. Their options are beyond my price range. So I am thinking of going with a junkyard 4l65e.

What year and applications should I source a trans from? The truck is a daily driven, no power mods 02 Silvy ext cab short bed. New motor is a 2007 lq4.

thanks

Why not just swap a 4l80 in place of the 60?

Because if he can't afford a FLT or Performabuilt, I doubt he can pull the $3K+ for a proper 4L80 swap.

yeah, a 4l80 isn't even in the equation. That's more fab and expense than I need or want to deal with.

Are all lq4's backed by a 4l65 or 4l70? I'm still having trouble finding a good list.

Actually, the vast majority of LQ4's are going to backed by a 80e, except the ones in a Denali. The problem with the one out of a Denali would be they are for a AWD/4WD set-up. LQ9 equipped vehicles also came with a 4L65, but they were only available in a 2WD application '05 thru '07 so the list is short for them. The Trailblazer SS came with a 4L70 and was available in both 2WD and 4WD. At least those are the ones that come to mind.

4l80e swap wasnt anywhere near 3k....

750 dollar junk yard trans w/ converter {i went with a yank and thats what costed me alot}
120 shift kit.
conversion u-joint 45 bucks..
flywheel w/spacer about 50 bucks
150 wiring harness... which can be done for free very easily
fabbed my own crossmember
made my own hoses...

so about 1100 ish without converter or harness....
find someone to tune it... 75 bucks!! futral motorsports....

but anyways my 60e lasted a long time with only a shift kit behind the 6.0

The newer model 65e's should bolt right in, correct? Curious about the wiring harness and all to make sure it'll drop right in my 2002.

You will not have an issue with bolting in a 4l65e. From the outside it is physically the same and the wiring is the same providing it is an 05 or older. Good luck with you swap. Vince

Vince,
are you referring to the trans or the truck being an 05 or older? And which donor vehicles should I look at as having the better internals?

Thanks
