As far as internals I really do not see a big difference in anything that has a M32 rating. Basically the parts are all the same. The only upgraded parts would be billet ones available with the purchase of a FLT transmission!
Due to the fact that I'm a trans builder and not a vehicle specialist, the donor vehicle thing I can not answer. I really don't pay attention. Good luck with the swap. Vince

Thank you for your inout Vince. I really appreciate it. I wish I could bring you some business because I have wanted to get a unit built by FLT but at the moment, it's beyond me.

I found a 4l65e with 31k today. Came out of an 05 GTO. The junkyard confirmed the third digit in the 4 digit code on the trans to be "Z". Which according to an old post I read from Vince indicates a 4l65e. $600 shipped which I don't think is to bad of a price. Although it does need a TC.
Now I need to find out which 2500HD torque converter will work for me. I spoke with Vince about it a long time ago but can't remember that far back. Or I may go with a Yank TT3000.
I might just get this all done within budget afterall.
$1100 shipped for a 24k mileage 07 LQ4
$600 shipped for a 31k mileage 4L65E

As for the converter I think that with the later lq4 engines you will be fine with any ls1 4l60e converter. I know there are a couple different flex plates so make sure to take some measurements with the converter in the trans. Also take a look at the link below.
If you do order a converter from Yank make sure to let them know what you have. They will make sure that your converter is correct for your application.
Here is a link on some info on the engine...

Best of luck with your new combo. Vince

The trans arrived today but I don't think it is a 4l65e. The sticker on the top has a 4 digit alpha-numeric code of 5HMD. If I have everything straight, then the 3rd digit in this code should be a Z to indicate the 65e trans. Before I bought the trans, I asked the recycler to verify the code for me. They did verify it as having a Z, which it does not.
The code etched on the bottom under the tailshaft is 5HMD 110A 41486992.
The vehicle VIN is 6G2VX12U85L464965
The engine arrives tomorrow. Let's hope that it is much cleaner and everything is as they said it would be.

What I need to do is verify that the trans actually matches the VIN that they gave me. It is a 2005 trans for sure but I want to make sure that it is a 65E.
According to Vince at FLT, that 4HMD code should have a Z as its 3rd digit. That signifies it's a 65E.
EDIT: According to GM, the casting number on the trans matches th GTO's VIN.

Ordered a Circle D TC the other day. That should arrive the end of next week. Thanks Chris.
I'll give the trans a better look today to make sure all seems well. Assuming that it's good, the 4l65e will be going in when the torque converter comes in.
