Default 4l60e to 4l80e

99 gmc in sig
Well I was out last night messing around, acutally driving the truck to my shop to start installing my 6.0 this weekend. Well the trans took the *****, i thought i would let her romp one last time with the 5.3, lol it was the last time for the trans also. I had in a 4l80 in mind already but what should I do?

Here are my plans, 6.0 lq4 all bolt ons, cam and so on - evetually i want a turbo but only money will tell, lol
Debaiting on rebuilding the 4l60 or getting the 4l80.
First of all how much trouble would i have to install it, tunning and getting it to work. Where would be a good place to buy the install kit?

A buddy of mine has a good 4l80 he will sell to me for $700. But if I get it I will have him go through it. How much horses will it handle stock? how much with a shift kit? what shift kit should i install in it. What size of stall should i buy, i have a 3000 in the 60 now.
Sorry for all the questions, but i am not to familiar with the 80e .
thanks guys!

The 4l80e swap isn't that hard, you can use the stock flywheel from the 6.0, you'll need the adapter harness from speartech, modify your stock crossmember, and switch to a th400 yoke on the driveshaft. You'll also need the trans dipstick.

It will handle about 500hp easily stock and probably 700-800 with a shift kit (transgo hd-2). The best stall would depend on your plans for it, it would be best to talk to our of the sponsors for a recommendation on that.

Will stock dipstick work or is it a modified one? Would you happen to have the part # on the yoke and will i need to make a new drive shaft?

the yoke from speed eng prevents you from having to modify driveshaft. IF Im right....

You need the aftermarket dipstick
cross member, you can modify yours
mount
harness/adapters/controller?
flywheel/converter to match
then tuning

Is that all?

Do the 4l80 and the 4l60 converters have the same bolt pattern? Will the flex plate off a 5.3 with a spacer added work on a stock 80 converter?

the you will need a 4l80e converter and a 6.0 flexplate, the ones from your 5.3 will not work.

You can use a 5.3 flexplate. You will have to drill new holes to mount the tq converter.
