Hi Guys,
I have just spent a couple of hours searching but couldn't find the answers to my questions.
I have a 98 5.7L 4x4 Suburban with the push button transfer case.
2 days ago the 4L60E trany grenaded.
I would like to do the conversion to a 4L80E but I can't find any info regarding a swap in this model truck.
Has anyone done this swap?
My main issue is I live in Melbourne, Australia.
I'll need to buy a trany and parts from the US and have them shipped over.
I believe, if I can get a 4L80E from a junkyard/secondhand supplier which has the push button type tranfer case I will have alot less hassles when it comes to the install.
I know I'll have to get the tailshaft shortened and move my crossmember back around 3".
Will everything else bolt up?
I have EFILive and am running a 99+ PCM so that and the wiring side of it isn't a problem.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Guess I could do a few follow up's.
I bought a trany from PA and had it shipped here to Oz.
It had 50K on it but I didn't know that for sure so I rebuilt it.

Transgo kit installed:



Rebuilt and ready to go in:





In the truck:






Installed some trany coolers:













Polished up and installed a Hydroboost unit:



Built a stainless shroud and installed elec fans:

Installed the Marine Manifold:











Then found out the Diff was shot!








I ordered a Detroit Truetrac and new ring/pinion. Should be here in a week.
In the meantime...
I built a new TOUGH diff cover (still to be finished and powder coated):











And today I built a diff spreader:

I'm pretty lucky..my boss lets me have access to everything in the factory...as well as an old grumpy (but extremely good) machinist. Anything I can't make...he can!
Being right hand drive, everything needs to be 'adapted' to fit!

The Hydroboost adapter plate:







Here's the whipple inlet I had to make.





Rebuilt the NP243 transfer case, changing the input shaft to the 32 spline to suit the 4L80E:







Adapted the Marine fuel rails to make them a direct bolt up to the original fittings.

Ah, just noticed you were downunder. Again some dang nice work. The inlet and fuel rails are works of art!

I have a couple of the mods you've done to do myself at somepoint. NP246 to 4l80E when my tranny goes. Hydroboost... luckily a bolt on.

Yeah...I haven't found anyone else with the 80E in a Burb. Deffinately not a 4x4 petrol Burb.
All in all, it was a pretty straight forward swap.
As for the wiring. The only thing needed is to run 2 wires from the PCM to the front speed sensor in the 80E and then make some pin swaps at the PCM.
Original plug from the 60E plugs straight in.
I rebuilt the 80E...first time I've opened an Auto and it wasn't too difficult. There are lots of neat little tricks which make things alot easier and remove the need for specialized tools. I did ALOT of reading online.

Finally received my Trutrac.
Pressed the bearings on (after going into a panic because they were different size to the G80 bearings...ID is bigger on the Trutrac).
Reworked the original cover for the moment.
