4l60e build with $100 core...
So after my third or fourth trans, i decided im gonna build one. Figure if it breaks there is noone to blame other than myself, not my first transmission build, just my first upgraded 4l60e. So i picked up a trans from a tahoe on cl for $100 only knowing it was a core and made noise.... Pulled trans down last week and this is what i found
Stripped rear ring gear hub
Busted rear ring gear
Awesome looking teeth
Almost stripped reaction shell
Low/reverse piston took a beating
Band didnt look too bad little burnt but not too bad
Someone had been in trans before, none of the bushings look bad, the bearings are a different story, they all grind when you spin em.... The front pinion looks good but bearing is noisy, take the bearing out and it spins better and is quiet!!! Getting bearing kit tomorrow, along with the last few parts i need, and some paint tryin to decide on black, aluminum, lime green or ordering the plum purple engine paint duplicolor has.... Not that it much matters cant see the case anyway other than the bottom of the bellhousing.. And yes i know at this piint i should be building a 4l80e and goin that route but some of us like to kearn the hard way and be stubborn!!!!

Center support/ low/reverse sprag cleaned up and back together
Transfer case adaptor cleaned up ready for paint
Bellhousing as cleaned as im gonna get it
Same with case.....
Was really busy at work today between the rain and everyone bracing for the hurricane that hopefully will stay out to sea ... Ordered my sonnax performance pack(rockauto $112 shipped), went to transtar and picked up new separator plate, piston set for input drum, transgo pump rings, and torrington bearings, and my vette servo came in today.... The guys at the transmission shop next to where i work put the case, bellhousing, and adaptor in their parts washer for me, guess it comes from sending all the transmission work over there(much to my dismay) and then i hit it with the parts washer at work and knocked most of the caked on crap off that i could with my die grinder...

I knew you were being sarcastic, just thinking about how much i spent on the trans thats in the truck now, and how much ive spent on this new trans so far and at this point i could have bought a 4l80e, new driveshafts, good converter, and the input for the transfer case and been ahead of the game!! Not to mention the transmission before the one that is in the truck.... The very first trans doesnt count that was a srta under warranty.... I am not new to building transmissions, just never built a 4l60e to do anything other than be a stock transmission in a customer's vehicle, last "performance" build i did was a th350 in my 80 z28, which included a b&m shift improver kit.... Needless to say that trans shifted so hard and fast it would spin tires shifting to second when i was on it and bark em when i eased into it, but that was also probably 15 years ago!!!

Not to mention this is the only part of the truck i have not rebuilt myself at this point, when this trans goes in i will honestly be able to say i have touched every bolt on every part of this truck and built it myself!!!!
