Now not cheap to do when spending 600 bucks just on the sonnax hardened input drum with billet input shaft but it will live when built right and uses a about 15 percent less power then the 80 with all its heavy internal parts.
If you're that concerned about 100lbs, perhaps performance trucks shouldn't be a hobby for you.

Ok, guys, i'm building a 4l60 here, lets not turn this into 60/80 debate.....the steeper first gear in the 4l60e, is part of the reason ive stuck with it, at least for now, makes up for some of the lack of rear gear i have, according to 3 different final gear calculators, im looking at something around 35:1 in 4lo and near 13:1 in 4hi in first gear.. I would have to swap to 4.88/5.13 with a 4l80e and 34.5" tires, to keep my final ratio the same... I should really swap to a 4.56 or 4.88 now, however my wallet and other obligations at the moment severely disagree with this... Im more pressed about getting this trans done and in the truck with a 3000 stall converter, getting my exhaust squared away and getting my cam situation rectified.... Now, can someone PLEASE answer mylast question about separator pkates and hole sizes....

Hell some 4.3s had 4L80Es behind them in the Vans.

4.10s and a higher stall dual stator torque converter.

Knew the rear ratio was referring to the 4.3 being a terd of an engine for such a big van......

Haha for sure although I have messed with a few P30 vans in a shop nearly 10 years ago that were retired UPS vans. 4.3 TBI and a big 5 spd with 5.38 gears.

As for your question on the drill size. The .093" hole will have a more substantial change than most would believe from .086". Its only .007" but it increases the area from 0.023" sq to 0.027" sq. An area increase of 16%.

With a stock 4.3 S10 converter stalling around 2,700 rpm the 0.093" holes, 2 accumulator shims, Corvette servo, and 0.500" boost valve had the 1999 Suburban barking tires with heavy torque management. I built one for my older G-van with the larger holes (0.102?) recomended for full race and it would jar your neck on 1-2 shifts and bang 2-3 pretty hard as well.

Ok so if i am correct in my thinking that sonnax includes the three recommended drill bits with the performance pack, my delco valve body the 3-2 shift hole was already at .093, the 2nd and 3rd clutch holes were damn near already at .086 and the 4th clutch was damn near only hole aside crom the afl balance oil hole that really needed to be drilled, so i went ahead and opened up the2nd and 3rd clutch holes to .093 along with the slight bit i had to take out of the other holes.... Wondering if gm had t caught on cuz the lil bs instructiondisclaimer sheet said to use this plate and gaskets with this valve body but didnt necessarily say why......
