4l60e HD2 part throttle 2nd shift help??
I had my trans shop install the TransGo HD2 and Sonnax billet servos in my 4l60e. Still running the stock converter. Truck is '00 Silvy EXSB 4x4, 5.3 motor, 4.56's, Trutrac and 33" tires. Runs great, trans works great other than the part throttle 1-2 shift is a little harsh. Wide open throttle 1-2 barks the tires impressively! 3-4 shifts are crisp and firm.
Currently running a Diablo mild performance tune, (torque management turned off).
I'm going to install the Circle D Stage II 278mm 3-3200 converter.
Any suggestions for adjustments that might soften the part throttle 1-2 shift or should I just wait until I install the new convertor and go from there?

I always heard stall converters would soften the shift, but you could always put the 1-2 accumulator back to the stock setup, and that would soften the shift. Also changing the servo and installing a corvette instead the sonnax I think would help as well. Vince should chime in on this.

Yeah I've heard that about converters too. I drove about 40 miles today and really scrutinized the 1-2 part throttle shift. Probably some adjustment possible with the Diablo Predator shift timing and line pressure adjustment that can be made. It's rare that I mat the gas pedal. My truck is far from a race truck but rather building it up for durability and better than average street performance. This one is a keeper and I'd rather improve on what I've got than buy a new or newer one and start all over again.
Either way, the converter install will tell me alot. Now I'm thinking that while I have the trans pulled back to install the new converter might be a good time to freshen it up with fresh clutches, band and Beast sunshell along with all the other goodies that help bullet proof a 60e in a street driven 4x4.
I hope a forum search produces a list of parts that should be installed during a rebuild, (at a minimum), to improve survivability.

I also installed an HD2 in my 4l60e with 19000 on the odo... I went a with a new seperator plate and forward pinless piston from sonax. I also used the HD 2-3 shift valve on my 05 silverado 4x4... I have a diablo sport as well but got a custom tune for diablew with no pressue increase or TCM turned off. I really like it with the HD2 and would recommend it to anyone.

The 1-2 shift always seems to be an issue with this kit when using a stock converter. I think the converter will help some depending on how the kit was installed. I personally like to use the least amount of washers in the 1-2 housing and always drill the feed hole to the smallest size in the directions. One thing I always did when I built these units was use the red spring in the 1-2 accumulator valve and sleeve instead of the white one. I felt it was a little stiffer and kind of seemed to help the 1-2 shift at part throttle. As mentioned above returning the 1-2 accumulator back to the OE configuration will help as well.
