Default 4L60E new and old, 4L65E,700R4 what gears are in these trannys?

i was poking around in hptuners, and for 3rd gear on the 4L60E it's showing like 1.2 if i remember correctly, and .90 for 4th. last i knew 3rd was 1:1 and fourth was .70? did i miss something? or is this factoring tire sizes?

also, i've heard of people regearing the 4L60E's first and second gear, so they're better matched? so basically, does anyone know all the gear sizes in these few trannys?

in the future i'm thinking manual valvebody 700 or 4L60, custom geared, with a non lockup converter. All the goodies of a 4spd, stronger and less power train HP loss.

I believe the 700r4 has the same gear ratios as the 4L60/65. Basically the same tranny, just under a different naming convention.

Direct from GM's Media website. This applies to all TH700-R4, 4L60, 4L60E and 4L65E

Gear ratios:
First: 3.06
Second: 1.63
Third: 1.00
Fourth: 0.70
Reverse: 2.29

Hmmm I didn't know there was such thing as a 4l60. I thought it was just short for teh 4l60e. Guess I'm a dumbass, cause I also thought the 4l60e was an electronically controlled 700r4

The only difference between the 4l60 and the 65 is the sun gear right

Nope. 65 has 5-pinion planets versus 4-pinion planets. Also believe a hardened input shaft along with some other changes. Somebody posted a link to a GM site that explained the differences but I lost it. They should be interchangeable as the changes are internal hard parts with no changes in gearing or electronics.

Looks like I got confused with the sun and planets

the 4L60 is what the name was changed to from the 700R4 in around 87 or so. in the 93/94 area when the trans went to an electronicly actuated valve body it became the 4L60E. the 4L65E is just a much beefed version of the 60E. no, it's not just a sun gear change. basicly if you have a 4L60 then you have a trans that is not electronicly controled. the 4L60E is the Electronicly controled unit. this is very important when ordering parts. the E at the end makes a difference.

the ratio's listed are correct.
