Default 4l60e separator plate hole sizing

Hey guys I'm hoping some or a few of you may be able to help me out (maybe even the pros). A friend and I are rebuilding his 4L60E and he is using a Corvette Servo and a wide band (and yes he is using a new drum as well) and we are trying to make sure that we get the 3rd apply and band release correct on the first shot if possible. What would be the proper 3rd gear feed hole and band release hole sizes for this combination? 3rd pack is set up at 25 thousandths i believe and using red clutches and kollenne steels. he is using a 3500 stall converter as well so I know that will factor in thank you guys in advance!

The 3-4 clutch the more fluid flowing to it the better, what shift kit are you installing??

HD2. And I was under the assumption that an unnecessarily large feed hole can cause a slide bump shift. My buddy was reading some threads that said there was a relationship between the 3rd apply hole and the band release so there wouldn't be any kind of flare or tie up or bind up or whatever. That's pretty much what we're stuck on now really. He said he read .157 3rd feed with a .098 release hole somewhere but I want a second opinion from someone who's done a few of them to make sure ya know

Dont remember off top of my head but i did the sonnax performance pack with h some transgo parts and a few other goodies, i also had a new valve body that included a seprator plate, and the only hole i needed to really open up with the new separator plate was the 2nd apply feed.... Everything else was as large as sonnax and the hd2 kit id found online said to.... I have a thread on my build and iirc i included what i did, and even the 3-4 shift is fairly stout comparatively!!!

I checked out your thread. I see you used the sonnax performance pack. We considered using that, and probably should have (next time, right? lol) considering we went with a lot of the stuff in that kit anyways on top of buying the transgo stuff it probably would have come out cheaper. Anyways, back on topic, I looked at the instructions on the sonnax site for the pack, and it has the hole sizes BUT it assumes youre using their little 3rd apply checkvalve thing that goes in the case and piggybacks the capsule ball type thing behind the servo. Ive heard a few guys say dont use them with the transgo kit because the two kits go about solving the 3rd apply/2nd release situation two different ways. That kind of puts me on the fence about that. it says .086 3rd apply and .098 release (hole A on the instructions; marked as 3-2). Im thinking thats pretty small compared to what ive seen. Most of what him or I have read is very incosistent. even saw one post of someone suggesting .157 to .187 -- thats huge! I would think that you'd maybe need that for a big servo (maybe?) but not to overcome a corvette servo...assuming my logic is correct on how it all operates.

Yeah that .157 is ridiculously large... As stated my 2-3, 3-2 and even my 3-4 shifts are nice and firm, used to 3-4 being sloppy almost slipping shift, now its quick and firm!! I have a transgo shift kit i ended up not using, and kinda turned me off to the hd2 except for a few parts from it..... I wanna say i got the performance oack for 112 which was a little more than what the hd2 wouldve run, but it eliminates a lot of wear items in the trans that cause internal leaks!! If transgo says .098 then run with it!! Wouldnt go much bigger though...

That's kinda where my problem is...the factory hole is 98 already and the instructions say "okay if bigger". It's a one owner vehicle so the hole size is factory and the factory shift wasn't ever great (none are really anything to write home about in stock form though).

Now that we've tightened the pack up and gone aftermarket with the stack up I know the size needs to be adjusted. I might try .110 which is my next largest bit and use .098 on the release hole and see what it does. Would hate to have to pull it down to readjust. Oh and Thanks for stoppint and taking the time to throw your two cents in tonight wolftrk!

Follow hd2 instructions and go .93 on all feed holes except for the 2-3 shift go .110..you will have nice solid shifts..on the 1-2 accumalator make sure to only install 1 spacer..any more and the part throttle 1-2 shift will be real harsh

Thanks for the feed hole suggestion. As for the Alto's, my friends father in law is a sales rep at their DC or corporate office or whatever it is in Alabama and got him the full set of red eagles and all the Kolleen steels and the 3rd gear powerpack thing all for around 125$ which is cheaper than I've seen on eBay and a couple other sites. So for the price I think he made out like a bandit whether they're bad good or great lol
