Default 4l60e torque converter won't stay locked.

Yesterday when driving my truck on the highway, I noticed it to be running a slightly higher rpm than normal( about 200 rpm). I sounded to me like the converter wasn't locking up. I stopped on side of road for a few minutes and started driving again. It drove just fine at 70 for about 3 minutes then I could feel the tc unlock again and the rpm rose. Then, after I stopped again, I had no reverse. I waited for about ten minutes to let things cool then tried it again. I had reverse again. Then put on highway and ran fine for a few minutes then the tc unlocked again. It slipped more and more as the temp rose. If I let it cool, I could go about ten miles before it would stop pulling. It gave me the codes p0702 and p1816. What do I need to do next? I bought the truck used and was told by the dealer it had aftermarket converter a nd corvette servos. It is an 08 Sierra with125 k miles. I bought it with 20 k so it has been working just fine for quite some. Transmission has never been serviced. What should I do next?

Sounds like you are in need of a rebuilt trans to honest with you. I say this because it sounds like the issue with the TCC was due to heat. When you said that it would not back up I would say that its pretty much done. Sorry for the bad news but it sounds like it lived a good life! Vince

Thanks Vince, I was afraid of that. I am going to take it to a tranny shop tomorrow. I live in the north Houston area and because of the aftermarket converter and such, does anyone know of a good shop to take it to? I would like it to be fixed back to the way it was.

The transmission never got hot and the fluid is not burned. Is it possible that the torque converter is broken and won't drive enough fluid to make it move once the fluid warm? I just don't think it would have just started slipping without any warning. I was just driving at 70 and it unlocked and started gradually slipping more and more. If I go outside right now and start it up, I can put kin any gear and it will drive without a hitch. But as it gets warmer, it losses pulling power until it won't pull at all. Any gear
